The Starlight Children’s Foundation™ Canada partners with Toys R Us to brighten hospital stays for children and their families

Visits to the Pediatric Outpatient Clinics at Health Sciences North’s North Eastern Ontario Health Centre for Kids (NEO Kids) will be made a little brighter with the purchase of Ipads and colouring books.

“We would like to thank Toys”R”Us Canada for helping Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada raise much needed funds for seriously ill children and their families across Canada. Thanks to the Starlight Star program, more than $700,000 has been distributed during the Grant program over 7 years to support hospitals in communities like Sudbury to help alleviate some of the rigor of medical treatment,” said Brian Bringolf, Starlight Canada’s executive director.

Each year during the holiday season, Toys”R”Us Canada employees and customers help raise funds through the sale and purchase of Starlight Stars in stores and online at Toys”R”Us. Last year, the campaign raised over $1.5 million dollars. In addition to the Starlight Stars, Grant funded programs support local hospitals with admit kits which include family essentials for unexpected hospital stays, Fun CentersTM that are mobile units that have a television and Nintendo Wii U system and many other programs that help to brighten the lives of sick Canadian kids and their families.

"Thanks to the Starlight Children's Foundation and Toys R Us, NEO Kids will be able to purchase distraction toys and equipment, such as iPads, colouring books and crafts, and gaming systems, for those children and youth requiring invasive procedures in our outpatient clinic.  Providing distraction items allows the child to focus on something else rather than the treatment they are receiving.  We are grateful for the continuing support of both the Starlight Foundation and Toys”R”Us" shared Keri Shewchuk, clinical manager, NEO Kids.

“Health Sciences North Foundation would like to thank the Starlight Children’s Foundation and Toys”R”Us for their long-standing support of children’s programs at Health Sciences North,” says Mary Lou Hussak, executive director, Health Sciences North Foundation. “Because of their generous donation visits to NEO Kids will be a little bit brighter.”
