Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers Make Donation to NEO Kids

The Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers have made a donation of $18,307 to the North Eastern Ontario Health Centre for Kids (NEO Kids) on behalf of Sudbury restaurateurs Junior and Leslie Moutsatsos.

Junior and Leslie Moutsatsos are this year’s recipients of the Paul Harris Fellow, the highest honour that is bestowed by the Rotary Club. The Moutsatsos’ were honoured for their years of charity work.

“For more than 30 years we have supported the very community that supports us,” says Leslie Moutsatsos. “Giving back is our way of keeping our business and family rooted in the success and growth of Sudbury. We proudly share this with NEO Kids.”

NEO Kids is Health Sciences North’s centre of excellence for children’s outpatient care. Located at the Ramsey Lake Health Centre, NEO Kids provides over 20 specialized clinics and services to children from across northeastern Ontario. Each year, there are approximately 35,000 patient visits to NEO Kids.

“I want to thank the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers, and Junior and Leslie Moutsatsos for this wonderful donation to NEO Kids,” says Dr. Sean Murray, a pediatrician and Medical Director of HSN’s Family and Child Program, which includes NEO Kids. “We know there is a growing demand for our services at NEO Kids, and this donation will help NEO Kids grow along with that need.”

Health Sciences North is proposing to expand NEO Kids by up to 40,000 square feet. Such an expansion would allow NEO Kids to both increase the capacity of its existing clinics, and provide new outpatient services for children across northeastern Ontario.

“We were thrilled to learn that Junior and Leslie chose to designate funds raised at an event that honoured them to support children’s health in northeastern Ontario,” says Mary Lou Hussak, executive director, Health Sciences North Foundation. “With the support of individuals and organizations, the purchase of necessary equipment and the building of NEO Kids is possible.”

Every year, the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers hold a gala fundraising event to honour the winner of the Paul Harris Fellow, with the recipients choosing the charity of their choice. Junior and Leslie Moutsatsos selected NEO Kids as one of their preferred charities.

“The Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers raised more than $36,000 for two local organizations: the Janis Foligno Foundation and NEO Kids,” says Sue Lekun, past president of the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers. “The club raised the money to honour Junior and Leslie Moutsatsos, the owners of P&M's Kouzzina restaurant in New Sudbury, who were awarded with the Paul Harris Fellow during a ceremony on June 25.”
